There are several types of yoga, which include Ashtanga yoga, Bikram yoga (which is also known as Hot yoga), Kundalini yoga, Iyengar yoga, Power yoga and many more. Each and every type of yoga has a different element of focus and a particular goal to achieve. In order to concentrate on that element and achieve the desired goal, there are postures and other techniques such as breathing and meditating, the frequency and nature of which differ from one type to another. As the practices of different types of yoga evolved, along with them evolved the need for yoga props. The aim of using these props during the yoga practice is to provide assistance to the person who is using the props during his/ her practice of yoga to achieve the goal of yoga to the utmost level. The major props are yoga mats, yoga straps, yoga blocks and yoga blankets. The use of a yoga blanket is, it provides a softer cushion along with warmth to the yoga mat (which happens to be another prop) used during the exercise routine. This makes the entire yoga experience more comfortable and pleasant and helps one reach the goal to the utmost potential. Generally the need for a yoga blanket is usually during the practice of Bikram or Ashtanga yoga. The blanket goes a long way in providing the extra inches of height needed to practice some postures along with doing a good job of absorbing sweat and consolidates the firmness of your posture during the course of performing a pose. Specially the cotton yoga blankets are very good in the absorption of sweat. Sometimes these cotton yoga blankets are quite heavy, however it is a positive attribute in the sense that the blanket provides a sounder base for gaining those extra inches that are needed to practice some postures. These heavy cotton yoga blankets are very common amongst the practitioners of Ashtanga and Bikram yoga (which is also called hot yoga). Another interesting type of yoga blanket is the reversible yoga blanket, which is considered a very helpful prop by yogis.
Yoga blankets also complement meditation practices by providing the warmth that is need during the meditation experience. In short, yoga blankets have a lot of benefits and play their role conveniently as helpful props making the yoga experience more delightful and comfortable for the yogis.
